RULES FOR THE SPEED CONTEST

Participants are running under their whole responsability.

Runways

The slalom area features two parallel runways, about 40 m long, with a speeding up zone of 12 m and a braking zone of 10 m. Each runway is fitted with 20 official STARWAY slalom cones, 80 cm apart.

The run is made from a standing start. The time is counted from the starting top until a measuring cells located 80 cm after the last cone.

Time trials

Time trials are open to all registered participants. Each participant will run twice, once on each runway. Only the best time of the two runs will be accounted for.

The best sixteen men and the best eight women are qualified for the Finals on KO-System, each in its category.

Finals on KO-System

The Finals are held on KO-System, two runners at a time on each parallel runway. They are made of 8th of finals according to the ranking established earlier, quarter-finals, half-finals, loosers final and final. The loser of each duel will be immediately eliminated.

Each duel will be run twice. A third run will be held in case of tie.

Penalties

0,2 second penalty will be applied for each cone either thrown over, moved outside of its circle or missed. 3 cones either thrown, moved or missed will disqualify the participant for the current run only.

RULES FOR THE STYLE CONTEST

Registration

Participants should register in advance, either through the Internet Registration Form or at the STARWAY slalom contest booth before the first run. Participants having registered through Internet are requested to confirm their registration at the STARWAY slalom contest booth before the event.

Participants are running under their whole responsability.

Runways

The slalom area features three parallel runways, about 30 m long. Each runway is fitted with 20 official STARWAY slalom cones, respectively 50 cm, 80 cm and 120 cm apart.

Events

There are two categories : girls and boys.

Each rider will run twice. Only the best result of the two runs will be accounted for.

Each rider will have 1 minute and 30 seconds in the slalom area, where he can do whatever he chooses.

A CD featuring the music which will accompany each rider's performance will have to be deposited at the STARWAY slalom contest booth before the start of the event. Each run can have different music.

Scoring

Four independant international judges will score the performance according to three different criteria : technical quality, fluidity and management of the run.

Technical quality accounts for the difficulty of each trick and combinations, with a bonus for a classical trick done differently.

Fluidity includes beauty and quality of each trick, the rider's ability in its performance, as well as the combinations' diversity.

Management of run concerns how well the music matches the performance, the diversity of tricks and rythms, and how well the allocated time is used.

RULES FOR THE JUMP CONTEST

Registration

The contest is open to everybody. Concurrents should register in advance either through the Internet Registration Form or on the site of the contest at the STARWAY Race Desk before the contest starts. Participants having registered through Internet should confirm their participation at the STARWAY Race Desk before the first run.

The High Jump Contest

The objective of this event is to jump over a bar as high as possible with the help of a ramp.

There are two categories : girls and boys.

A mandatory warm-up period of 10 minutes is provided before the start of the competition.

The wearing of wrist-guards with a hard plastic insert as well as knee-pads is mandatory. Concurrents not wearing those protections will not be allowed to run. Wearing of helmet is strongly recommended. Participants are running under their whole responsability.

The Judges

The starting judge checks that the rider is wearing the mandatory protective gear and will give the top for start.

The race judges check the bar's two support pylons for stability, the correct positionning of the bar and the landing of the riders, as well as replacing the bar if it falls.

The Event

The initial height of the bar is set at 2.00 m for the boys and 1.60 m for the girls. The bar will be moved up 10 cm for the first two increments, then every 5 cm. When there are only three contestants left, the increment is set according to the demands of the contestants.

The jump must be lauched with both feet face front to the bar.

Each rider has three tries per height. After three unsuccessfull tries at one height, he is eliminated from further jumps. Each rider has 30 seconds to do his jump. He also has a 30 seconds rest between consecutive tries.

A contestant can choose not to do any jump at a given height. After a miss, he can also choose not to use the remaining tries to which he is entitled. The unused tries are then carried over to the next height of the bar.

A jump is validated if the rider passes over the bar without making it fall and without using his hands to steady himself upon landing. His knee can only make contact with the ground for no more than one second.

All acrobatic jumps (forwards or backwards) are strictly forbidden. The penalty is immediate disqualification.

Results

The winner is the rider that jumps over the highest bar without making it fall.

In case of ties among the top contestants only, the winner will be the contestant that has knocked the bar off the least times during the whole competition. If there is still a tie, the height of the first knocked off bar is considered : the winner is the rider with the heighest bar. At last resort, the bar is lowered 5 cm and the competition starts again.
